My photography simply can't capture the beauty of this stone. The last photo is from the supplier and it is representative of what these look like.
Faceted coins of "irradiated quartz" have an aurora borealis finish that's just stunning! It's a little more subtle than an AB finish on a Swarovski crystal. These beads are a new find for me. They're gorgeously clear and sparkly and reflect a veritable rainbow of pastel colors. Formal enough for evening wear. These gems are 10mm round and a substantial 5mm thick and make a dangle that's 18mm total from top to bottom.
This pair of baubles is finished with 14k gold-filled ball end wire and a 4mm gold-filled ring for ease of use with the Simple Swirl Gold earrings or Gold "O" hoops. They'll also be lovely as an accessory on your own hoop earrings. The second picture shows them modeled on Simple Spiral Gold Heavy Weight earrings, sold separately.
The supplier indicates that these are natural quartz beads, listing the treatment as "irradiated." If you know your quartz types, you probably know that exposure to radioactivity produces smoky quartz, so I'd love to know exactly what the process is for producing this finish. Mystery that it is, it's no less beautiful!
